Sage is designed to support Tasmanians to establish and run a successful gardening business. Sage’s client base is predominantly elderly people on government-funded homecare packages. A key part of the business model is social connections. Sage Gardening Service is a Tasmanian franchise designed and run by Kate and Lindsay.
For Kate, Sage Gardening was an escape from office life.
“I love the outdoors and being stuck in a stressful office each day was impacting my mental and physical health. I wanted to do my own thing – be my own boss – create something with meaning and connection.”
Kate’s background is in law and policy. She has experience with government contracts, business systems and red tape.
Over a glass (or a few!) of wine between longtime friends, the business model for Sage Gardening was created. From the beginning, the Sage gardening franchise model was driven by a shared belief that a business can create something far greater than an income — it can create purpose, connection and possibility.
For Lindsay, Sage Gardening grew from a very personal journey.
“As a single parent rebuilding my life after an abusive relationship that had left me financially and emotionally depleted, I was determined to create independence, security and a future for my family. What started as a way to find my feet became something much more — it gave me financial independence, flexibility as a parent, confidence in my own abilities and a career I genuinely loved.”
Lindsay has built a successful landscaping business from the ground up. This experience planted the seed for Sage Gardening services as Lindsay wanted to share what she had learned and create opportunities for other women, particularly those rebuilding their own lives, to gain the skills, confidence and courage to create financial independence and a future of their own.
